A good start
Dec. 18th, 2009 08:44 amBusking is off to a good start!
Thursday dawned rainy, so I went window shopping around Vatican City (Via Rienzo, Via Ottaviano, and Via Giulio Cesare) and the Campo de' Fiori. I got home just as the weather was clearing, and got the music off to a great start a block from one of my favorite pitches. My usual spot was suffering sonic bleed from a saxaphonist, but a place I hadn't tried before worked just as well.
I took a monster nap in the afternoon before heading out to do some evening playing at the Campo de' Fiori. This spot has a lot of significance for me because it was my first Roman pitch, the place where I first realized this was working almost three years ago. I had a great conversation with an old acquaintance, Sasha the mime, and a decent set before it was cut short by rain.
The highlight of my day, however, was finding Italian hot chocolate less than two blocks from my hotel. Oh. My. God. I've had it a few times in the past, and it's basically hot cocoa with the consistency and richness of pudding. Drinking a cup at nine pm when I'm still battling jetlag was almost certainly a mistake, but it was totally worth it!
Piazzo Venezia and the Vittorio Emmanuele monument.
