Bad Habits vs Self Acceptance

I have a strong tendency to live in the future; I'm so busy making plans and concocting schemes that I lose track of the immediate present. One of my favorite benefits of travel is that it keeps me on my toes, forcing me to pay deeper attention to what is in front of me because of its unpredictability. Still, I've been known to spend time in Europe daydreaming about potential North American gigs.

I've mourned this habit in myself for years, even though it's been a key in advancing my career. In particular I've applied Buddhist philosophy of "living in the now", but with limited results. So, with ideas for the future in my crosshairs even as I'm surrounded by a New England autumn, I'm rerouting myself towards a Buddhist acceptance of what is. This is who I am, and while I won't let it get too carried away with me I'm not going to fight it.
