There's way too much to explain in depth. I wrote up a pretty detailed description of the past week and more, but I don't have wifi access and it turns out that I left my flash drive plugged into a public PC in Croatia (and my mac - my first annoyance in almost two years of ownership - refuses to mount my camera as an external drive even though it worked with my last camera).

So, when last we left our hero he'd finally found the Tuscan pitch in Pistoia. Turns out there was a miscommunication after all, and instead of being told I needed to move pitches I had been told that I needed to be in motion rather than sitting in one spot (a neat trick for a dulcimer player, though I've seen a few pull it off). The second pair of cops (women, of course - see my 2007 experiences) were much more clear and assertive than the guys had been the day before.

I spent the weekend in Ferrara, which had been pretty good to me in 2007. I'd forgotten what a beautiful city it was, and my memories were a bit clouded with having spent four days so sick I could barely get out of bed to play a few hours a day. I borrowed a bicycle from the hotel (a nice perk) and rode around the city walls, which turned out to be a much more arduous ride than I'd expected since I'd misconverted km into miles. How I divided 9 by 2 and got 2 I'll never know, but after a two hour nap all was well. On my second bike ride I explored a fifteenth century monastary whose grounds are now the coolest modern cemetery I've ever seen.

From Ferrara I went to La Spezia, just south of the Cinque Terre. It has the longest pedestrian promonade I've ever seen, and I was drooling over the busking opportunities just walking to my hotel from the train station. The local polizia didn't say a word to me (although waiting for them to finish a 20 minute conversation thirty feet away from me in order to be sure was a little nerve-wracking), and my day trip to Monterosso (one of the Cinque Terre towns) was lovely. I'll definitely be back.

So now I'm in Genova, experiencing the beauty that is Easter. The weather is stunning, the busking (knock wood) is going really well, and I'm in one of my favorite cities in the world. Life doesn't suck.
