Music

It's been awhile since I've posted so I feel like I should catch things up with everyone.  Last weekend we were closed on Saturday, had an intermittently rainy Sunday, and followed by a pretty good Saturday today.

With that update out of the way, here's what's on my mind.  I've got my next three CDs planned out in my mind (which is nothing new), but surprisingly I have titles for all three (which is earthshaking).  The thing is that two of the three will be in foreign languages (Gaelic and Latin), which means that in 2010 I'll have three CDs out of a projected five in print that will have non-English titles.

I don't think this will be a problem (L'Inverno Italiano has been selling pretty well despite an Italian title) but I'm not especially certain.  It shouldn't matter what I call a collection of instrumental music, and I love having the freedom to play with language.  But I worry from a marketing perspective.

Any thoughts?

I see no issues...

As you point out - no lyrics to get in the way...you will be great!

Thanks! It seemed like that would be the case, but I wanted to get some opinions. And that of a communications professional, not to mention a spectacular human being, certainly counts for a lot!

Vince, from the brief period I've known you, I think it's safe to say you are one of the two best hammered dulcimer players I've seen... You and Tomko Lamb.

Having worked many festivals, just as you have, I've seen quite a few sulcimer players play, and from an outsiders perspective, you don't have to worry what you name your album... Especially if it's lyricless.

Thanks so much Dan, it means a lot to me to hear that from you. I hope that you're enjoying Germany!

I suspect that the people who will buy your albums buy them with no regard for the titles. And I can't imagine trying to find you from the titles, so I'd say call them anything that you find appropriate :D

Thanks :) I'm planning to put a blurb on the back with the translation of the title ("Title" is an Irish Gaelic phrase meaning...), so I'm hoping it will balance out that way too. I've got some neat arguments on why it could be good marketing, but I like to make sure I'm not just trying to convince myself :)

The title communicated the mood and general feel of the collection. Having it in another language isn't an issue. At least to me.

Thanks, I'm glad you think so and I hope you're enjoying it!
